Number of Times Seen – 1 (28 Jan 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A Indian man adopted at a young age living in Australia tries to find his original family.
My Take on it – This is the final film nominated for Best Picture this year for me to finally watch and it’s actually one of my favorites because it is such an emotionally drenching film.
This film takes us on a journey of discovery unlike anything else and we feel as if we are experiencing a roller coaster ride along the way.
I really liked how this film is essentially two films that are connected because the first half deals with the journey of Saroo as a child while the latter half deals with his journey as an adult.
Dev Patel is great as the older Saroo and his performance is quite gut retching to watch because it’s so emotional.
The performance of young Sunny Pawar is equally as emotional as he portrays the trials and tribulations of the 8 year Saroo alone in India.
The end of the film was quite emotional for me and I felt my eyes well up with tears because it was so emotional to watch.
This film definitely deserves to be listed among the best of the films of 2016!
Bottom Line – Very emotional film that takes us on a journey of discovery. Great way that they split the film into two distinct parts that help us understand the character and how complicated his life and memories have become. Patel is great as the older version of the main character yet it’s fun to watch Pawar portray the character as a child. I started to well up with tears at the end because this film is such an emotional roller coaster ride. Kidman does a great job in a supporting role. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The 8-year-old Sunny Pawar was originally unable to attend the US premiere because he was denied a visa. Producers of the film made an appeal to Homeland Security, after which Pawar and his father were allowed to come to the US (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy
