What Happens in Vegas (2008)

what_happens_in_vegas_ver2“…We got robbed. All they took was the door. ” – Jack

Number of Times Seen – 2 (31 May 2008 and 9 Feb 2017)

Brief Synopsis – After getting married on a whim while visiting Las Vegas,  a couple are forced to stay together for 6 months in order to inherit money won gambling.

My Take on it – This is quite a fun film to watch because it’s a bit different than the usual cookie-cutter romantic comedy.

The fact that leads Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz both play their characters so differently, it’s easy to see how they could get caught up in the (drunk) moment, but then completely regret their decision.

We can easily believe that their characters could hate each other’s guts.

The antics they both play on each other just gets funnier and funnier and in some ways this film feels like a version of war of the Roses (1989) (yet funnier).

Robb Corddry and Lake Bell are both excellent as hilarious sidekicks for the two leads and Dennis Miller is perfect as the wise-cracking judge who “forces” them to remain together for 6 months.

Bottom Line – Fun film because Kutscher and Diaz really are so different that the idea of them hating each other works so well.  Has lots of great gags and feels like a modern version of War of the Roses (1989) (but funnier).   Bell and Corddry are both hilarious in supporting roles and Miller is perfect as the wise cracking judge.  Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to Rob Corddry, Ashton Kutcher slapped him in the face during his audition even though it was not scripted.  (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
