Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Feb 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A pair of spies for the allies fall in love while working on a case in Casablanca during the early days of World War II.
My Take on it – This is a film that I saw the trailer for a few months back and was interested in seeing what it was all about.
Unfortunately, it’s a movie where the trailer tells almost the whole story which takes away some of the suspense and mystery of what they are trying to do here.
Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard have great chemistry together and they work well as a team which makes it enjoyable to watch them together.
Their chemistry actually helps us to constantly have doubts as to what is true and what is possibly a facade.
The story was good, but could have been a bit more mysterious and compellingly written.
We easily get drawn into the world they created here and it’s nice to watch it all as it happens.
Liked the way that they explore the issues of trust between colleagues, families and of course spouses and it works well almost the whole time.
I do suggest tho, that in order to enjoy this film more,, don’t watch the trailer first because it reveals information that is best to be left to be discovered along the way.
Bottom Line – Pitt and Cotillard work well together, and their chemistry helps make it easy to begin to doubt what we believe and what is false. The story could have been more compellingly written, but at least they do a wonderful job drawing us into the world they live in. Explore the issues of trust and faith in others which works well most of the time. In order to enjoy this film more, don’t watch the trailer which gives it all away. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – For the limited French dialog spoken by Brad Pitt, Marion Cotillard acted as his tutor. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
