Justice League: Dark (2017)

justic-league-dark“I expect the worst, so I prepare for the worst and when the worst happens, I’m ready.  But my outlook doesn’t always alter the reality of the world.” – Constantine

Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Feb 2017)

Brief Synopsis – Batman is called upon to join a group of supernatural beings who use magic when they must try and stop a dangerous villain from taking over the world.

My Take on it – As many of you already know, I’m a fan of superhero films and this one was one I was looking forward to because of the way that DC/WB has been pushing the envelope with their recent films.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t really aware of the fact that this film doesn’t actually feature most of the superheroes that we have come to known from the past animated films from DC besides Batman.

I felt that while I was watching this that they only chose to use these characters and the themes of magic because Marvel just made a movie featuring Doctor Strange (2016), which also happens to utilize similar magical themes.

The themes explored here are a bit dark for my taste and eventhough the animation is stellar, I wasn’t too enthralled with the way it was all done.

Had I been more aware of the dark themes used here, I probably wouldn’t have rushed to watch this.

Bottom Line – I was a bit disappointed that the only real Justice League Member featured here was Batman.  This films feels like a ploy to try and capitalize on the fact that Marvel made a feature film of Doctor Strange (2016) who also utilizes supernatural magical powers like the characters here.  The themes here are a bit too dark for my taste and had I probably known beforehand what this film was about, I might not have rushed to watch it.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – John Constantine’s character design was originally based on the performer Sting. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy

  1. I really enjoyed this film, though I generally knew what I was getting into. This was in the works since shortly after Constantine was cancelled, so the proximity to Doctor Strange is mostly coincidental. I thought it did a good job of introducing the characters that many would be unfamiliar with.
