Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Feb 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A grumpy widower intent on killing himself unwillingly becomes friendly with his new neighbors which changes his life.
My Take on it – This is a film that I probably never would have encountered has it not been nominated for Best Foreign language Film at the Oscars this year.
It is a great human story because it deals with so many things that many of us deal with on an ongoing basis and takes things to the extreme, but still remains believable.
The themes dealt with here are really important life themes and this films looks at them from both a serious and in some ways comical perspective which makes things fun to watch because we don’t always know whether to laugh or cry at what is happening.
The character of Ove is brilliantly brought to life by Rolf Lassgard and the character seems so familiar because most of us have encountered people like him at some point in our lives.
The story starts off a bit slow, but as things move along and we get to understand a lot more of what has transpired in his life, we see that things begin to move along as a more pleasant pace which makes it even more fascinating to watch unfold.
Bottom Line – Very fun film because it deals with some great themes. The character of Ove is completely brought to life by Lassgard and he reminded me of numerous people that I had encountered over the years. The story moves a bit slow at the beginning, but as we start to learn more and more about the character things get more and more interesting to watch. Recommended!
