John F. Kennedy: A Personal Story (1996)

jfk“His humor was no ploy, it was John Kennedy’s gift of survival, his weapon of choice.” – Narrator

Number of Times Seen – 1 (5 Mar 2017)

Brief Synopsis – Biography of the 35th President of the US from his early childhood through his untimely assassination in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

My Take on it –Having always been a fan of history of the Presidents and also of the conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination of JFK, I was extremely happy to come upon this film that gave a more broad overview of his life.

There are so many fascinating things about him and they do a great job here of emphasizing some of the lesser known facts about his life and of his own personal thoughts and politics.

This film has an array of interviews with former classmates, friends, lovers, colleagues and even a few family members here and there to give us so much more to understand who this man was.

This film is further proof at how much he was able to attain in his short life and the loss to all of us that even then, he was far from reaching his true potential.

These personal interviews help us learn how he was as a child, young man, man, student, soldier, officer and politician.

He didn’t spend so much time in the spotlight for the world to see who he was, but the amount that he was able to accomplish in this short period of time is astounding and there is no question about the fact that he was clearly one of the best, brightest and most influential of the Presidents in US History.

Bottom Line – Excellent bio of such a great and intelligent man who did so much yet still remained far from his potential. The interviews with so many close friends from his lifetime serves to tell us so much about who he really was as a person. Despite his short time in the limelight, he was able to accomplish quite a lot and remains one of the best, if not most influential, Presidents in history. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Was a natural speed reader. He could read about 2,500 wpm (ten times the average reading speed). He would read six newspapers from front to back while he had breakfast. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)

  1. John F. Kennedy is my favourite President and historical person. Yes, the Boston area connection has something to do with it, but he was a memorizing person for his time period. I can’t imagine how many Kennedy documentaries and films I’ve seen in my life, so I need to add this to the list.
