Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 Mar 2017)
Brief Synopsis – As a young woman contemplates her upcoming marriage, she learns about the lives of her grandmother’s friends who are all part of a quilting group.
My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve been interested in seeing for years and just never got around to it.
I’m glad I finally got to see it in order to find out what it really is all about.
This film has an amazing cast and that alone tends to try and make us perceive that this is much better than it is.
I am adamant in my feelings that longer movies aren’t necessarily a bad thing and in this case in particular, having made it longer would have helped it immensely.
A film that is primary told in flashback stories of each of the characters needs to take its time introducing and telling us each and every story yet here, most of the stories feel a bit rushed and instead of getting deep personal stories, it feels mostly like overviews instead of full stories.
The fault here is the film’s runtime. Had they expanded the film to more than the allotted two hours would have helped make this even more compelling and interesting to watch.
The potential for greatness is definitely here, but the rushed stories takes away from the emotion of it all and in the end feels just too lackluster instead of grander.
Quite a pity that the potential was wasted here because this story could have been done so much better!
Bottom Line – Great cast helps this a bit, but unfortunately, it tries to cram too many stories into such a short period of time. Each of the stories feels a bit rushed and instead of getting a complete story from each of the characters, we feel that they are just overviews instead of something deeper. Expected this film to be more emotional and more prolific, but in the end it just feels lackluster because of the missing potential.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Film debut of Jared Leto. (From IMDB)
