Movies From the Hat V #32 – Drew’s Pick – Baby Mama (2008)

This is my 2981st Review

Thanks to Drew of Drew’s Movie Reviews for this recommendation.

“Can I just spray a little PAM down there right before the baby comes out? ” – Angie

Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Mar 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A busy executive decides that she wants to have a baby via a surrogate when she finds that she cannot conceive a child on her own.

My Take on it – Tina Fey and Amy Poehler worked so well together during all their years on Saturday Night Live, that it is only natural that they would move their collaborations eventually to film.

The two of them are amazing together and always know how to work off one another so well that it all always seems so natural and also quite humorous.

The story itself here feels a bit generic but the performances of Fey and Poehler along with the very famous supporting cast like Steve Martin, Sigourney Weaver, Greg Kinnear, Romany Malco, Holland Taylor and Maura Tierney uplifts the general feeling about the average story to a point where we really care about all involved.

As a parent, it’s easy to see how much they got right when it comes to preparing for a child to enter one’s life and I’m sure that the fact that both of the two leads are mothers themselves also helped them really connect with their characters a bit more.

Not a movie, I would run to see again, but it still was quite enjoyable to watch.

Bottom Line – This films works quite well mainly due to the amazing chemistry between the two leads.  Fey and Poehler were truly born to work together and they work off one another so well.  The story itself feels a bit generic but is uplifted by the performances of everyone involved.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Boo Boo Busters, the Professional Childproofing Company featured in this movie, is based on the real company in California. The owner of Boo Boo Busters, Kimberlee Mitchell, shipped a box of child safety devices to the production, production offices to use in the filming, including the now infamous toilet lock Amy Poehler’s character claimed was “broken.” (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
