This is my 2984th Review
Thanks to SG of Rhyme and Reason for this recommendation.
Here are his thoughts on the film.
Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Mar 2017)
Brief Synopsis – An Indian family immigrates to France where they open an ethnic themed restaurant directly opposite a famous French cuisine restaurant.
My Take on it – I must say that this film disappointed me a bit.
I was expecting something much more entertaining but instead felt that the story, character backgrounds and the general plot all feel transplanted from a normal staple film story about ethnicity into the world of culinary cuisine.
The acting is ok and all of the characters (no matter their ethnicity) all feel too stereotypical.
This film does deal with issues of racism quite well but it still doesn’t feel original enough.
The constant bickering among the characters was fun to watch, but quickly got tiring because it happened too much.
In the end, it all feels like the point of the movie was to create a way for verbal sparing among different ethnic characters over and over.
The romance aspects of the film feel too tacked on and seem to be there just as an afterthought.
Bottom Line – Pretty average film that feels like it was transplanted a staple story into the world of culinary cuisine. The characters all feel very stereotypical. They deal with issues of racism quite well though and I really liked the constant bickering between the characters, but it got to be too much too quickly. It all felt as if the main point was to have the verbal sparing between the characters.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Although the novel is set in the 1990s, the story is modernized for the film. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
