Collateral Beauty (2016)

“But you never know, nothing’s ever really dead if you look at it right. ‘ – Brigitte

Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Apr 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A man who recently lost a loved one begins to question the very fabric of the universe.

My Take on it – This is a film that somehow missed my radar and I didn’t know what to expect from it at all.

I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed this because it takes numerous themes and melds them together for us to mull over for quite some time.

They do an excellent job looking at the ideas of Love, Time and Death and showing how integral each of them is within our lives.

It gives all of us so much to think about because the themes discussed here are so universal and also very esoteric that it leaves so much for all of us to think about for days after watching this film.

The themes are all shown from numerous layers which helps make it all more relevant to our lives and even more poignant.

The cast is superb with Will Smith, Ed Norton, Kate Winslett, Michael Pena, Helen Mirren, Naomi Harris and Keira Knightley are giving wonderful performances here.

This was really a surprisingly pleasant film to find.

Bottom Line – Does a great job looking at the ways Love, Time and Death are so integral to our lives and how much we need to cherish each of them. Amazing cast that work quite well together. Loved how they use the themes here in a dual layer which helps make it all more poignant. Quite a pleasant surprise that I enjoyed it so much.  Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The loss of a loved one in this movie’s theme was reflected in reality for Will Smith, in that his father Willard Carroll Smith, Sr. was dying while Will was researching his role. He has said that working on the film was extremely therapeutic in helping him deal with the ultimate loss of his dad.(From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. I’m so glad you enjoyed this too! It’s movies like this that make me thankful for blogging, without needing something to write about I probably would have skipped this movie all together 🙂
