Brief Synopsis – A group of Rebel spies are sent on a mission to try and find a way to destroy a new deadly weapon being created by The Empire
My Take on it – It’s been four months since I first saw this film and each time I keep enjoying it more and more.
In order to get an even better understanding of the story and characters depicted here, I decided to read the novelization prior to rewatching it this time.
It’s actually quite interesting to see the differences between the two versions because the film focuses on the action, while the novelization is able to give us background and thoughts of the characters as everything is happening.
This helped enhance my viewing this time because I had much more insight while watching this then I had previously.
This is such a great addition to the whole Star Wars canon because it helps show us a more detailed account of situations that were always discussed just in passing.
The new characters introduced here are diversely different than the previous ones we already know and help endear us to the way the whole universe of characters and story are built.
The story itself is great and it helps fill so many gaps in the information that we already know from the other films.
The action is superb and we really get to see how ground and air battles are fought when the technology is available to make it all seem so real.
Being able to watch this back-to-back with A New Hope was such an amazing experience because it also shows how much thought was put into making this film the way it was made.
I really hope that this is the direction that they plan to take all of the new films in because if so, we have so many reasons to be hopeful that this new Star Wars canon is going to places we never can expect in such a fun way.
Bottom Line – Excellent addition to the Star Wars canon. Great new characters help endear us to the expanded universe of a Galaxy Far Far Away. The story adds so much to the already expansive Star Wars universe and makes the other films even better because it adds so much detail to general information that we already know about. Hopefully this is the direction this film series is leading towards because if so, we are all gonna have so much fun… Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Anthony Daniels was reportedly disgruntled that Alan Tudyk was allowed to play K-2SO in the relative comfort of a motion-capture suit, whereas Daniels had to endure years of discomfort and injuries in the C-3PO costume. This tension came to a head when Daniels cursed at Tudyk after Rogue One’s premiere. Tudyk later joked that a “F*** you” from Daniels was one of the highest compliments he had ever received. Rating – Oscar Worthy (no change from original review)
