“Man, I told you not to go in that house. ” – Rod
Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Apr 2017)
Brief Synopsis – Upon visiting his white girlfriend’s parents house, a young black man discovers that things aren’t truly as they seem.
My Take on it – This is a film that I truly had little desire to see due to the fact that it has been classified by so many people as a horror film. (which is a genre that I’m not a fan of).
I for some reason decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did because I really enjoyed this film.
It isn’t a horror film at all and I’d put it in the category of a psychological thriller filled with many dark comedic touches along the way.
The cast is superb here and they all know how to play comedy by making it seem as if they are playing it straight.
They are all filled with energy that you never know what to expect from any of them as things move along.
Jordan Peele does an amazing job as writer and director in his first feature length film.
He is able to prove to us that he has the talent and ability to create a story and characters who can keep us entertained for over an hour and a half while still keeping things quite interesting.
I definitely am interested in seeing what he has for us in the future if this is just the beginning of his ideas.
Bottom Line – Not really sure why many people classify this film as a horror film, because it is much more of a thriller with dark comedic touches. The cast is superb and so full of energy that you really aren’t always sure what will happen. Great first outing for Peele as writer and director and it shows that he can definitely keep our attention for a full length feature film while delivering lots of laughs along with an interesting storyline. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Jordan Peele was inspired to write this movie by Eddie Murphy. During a stand-up comedy show, Murphy talked about going to meet a Caucasian girlfriend’s parents (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
