For this month’s first review for Genre Grandeur – Boston Films, here’s a review of The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1974) by Ryan of Ten Stars or Less
Thanks again to Ryan of Ten Stars or Less for choosing this month’s genre.
Next month’s Genre has been chosen by Vern of the Video Vortex. We will be reviewing our favorite Graphic Novels that have been adapted for the screen.
The one caveat is that it has to be based on a book that has been published.
Example The Killing Joke would be acceptable because it’s based on an actual graphic novel. The Dark Knight would not because it’s based on characters and there was no book before the movie.
Here is what appears to be the official/unofficial list of film adaptations of Graphic Novels

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Vern!
Let’s see what Ryan thought of this movie:

The Friends of Eddie Coyle Review
=====================
1/10
I always feel bad rating movies so low, but this movie was terrible. It was so uninspiring, boring, and not engaging in the least. The main character is hardly the main focal point and for what happens to him in the end, like come on. The only part(s) I enjoyed were the creative bank robberies. If criminals pulled off jobs like this, it would make for entertaining news. Thankfully this movie is just on the Boston Globe’s Top 20 “set” in Boston, because that’s the only list it would ever crack. How this film has a 7.6 on IMDb is a mystery me.

Couldn’t disagree with you more. Other than the slow burn treatment given to the “action” here – there’s a LOT going on – good guys, bad guys – some in the gray area. And it features excellent performances by Robert Mitchum (one of the greats) and Peter Boyle amongst others. You think thge high ratings from other sources are a “mystery”. Maybe if everyone else things this is a quiet gem, you could be the guy who’s wrong on this movie. I won’t bother to tell you to take another look. I’ve seen it more than once – and you’re on the wrong side of the equation here IMO.
