Forced Movies 2017 #3 – Train to Busan (2016)

This is the third of 14 films that I was “forced” to watch by my fellow bloggers who participated in my Blogiversary Contest last month.  This movie was chosen by Darren.  Tnx for the suggestion.  Let’s see what I thought of it….

“I’ll take you to mom no matter what. ” – Seok-Woo

Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 May 2017)

Brief Synopsis – As a father and daughter travel to meet her mother, a Zombie epidemic breaks out in South Korea and they must do all the can to survive the outbreak.

My Take on it – As many of you already know, I am usually not a fan of foreign language films but Darren was quite persistent that I watch this film since he knows that I am a fan of zombie genre.

Boy am I glad he did because I really enjoyed this film immensely.

The idea to stage a story like this on a train makes it feel like a Die Hard on a train filled with Zombies and that helps raise the stakes of the danger to all of the characters.

They do a great job of giving us enough information about each of the characters in order to make us care about them.

This helps make us want them to survive even more despite the fact that we know that in a film like this, there is no chance that everyone will make it to the end of the story.

The characters themselves don’t feel very stereotypical and they all work quite well together despite the fact that they are all very different in their backgrounds and even their class stature which helps give it a more global feeling as we watch things unfold as a fast pace.

Bottom Line – Enjoyed this film immensely despite the fact that it is in a foreign language. Loved their “take” on a Zombie apocalypse and they do a great job making us care about the characters despite knowing that any of them have the possibility of not making it out alive. The characters don’t feel very stereotypical and despite all of them being from diverse backgrounds and socio-economic classes, they all work well together in this story. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Train to Busan becomes the first South Korean film to cross the $1 million mark at the Singapore box office. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
