Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 May 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A camera crew follows around a serial killer in order to document what he does and why so that they can get a better understanding of the man behind it all.
My Take on it – This is yet another foreign language choice from Jay (his 3rd) who apparently really wanted to use this win to make me watch films that are not within my normal comfort zone.
It’s amazing watching such a film 25 years after it was made because of the way that society’s fascination with reality TV has changed so drastically during that time period.
This truly is a film made before it’s time and depicts many things that would be even more interesting to people today than it must have been back then.
This film really go to extreme lengths to show how important reality can be while telling a story and it does so to a sickening point.
I enjoyed the way that this film is able to balance the home and “work” life of a serial killer because it is able to have the characters transition so easily between the two very different worlds making it all seem so “normal” (which it’s not).
They also do a very interesting job of portraying the idea of peer pressure and “getting caught up in the moment” which helps emphasis the crazyness of it all.
Not a film I’m gonna run to see again despite it having some very interesting merits to it.
Bottom Line – A film before its time despite it not being an easy watch. Reality TV was only in its infancy when this came out but this film takes its idea to extreme lengths to show us how important reality can be when filming a story. Liked the way they balance the home and “work” life scenes making it all seem so “normal” for both the camera crew and the character to transition between these two aspects of his life. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Due to budget problems, it took the filmmakers over a year to complete the film. The company ran out of money several times and shooting had to be postponed until more money could be raised. A lot of friends and family of the filmmakers contributed to the film, both behind and in front of the cameras. (From IMDB)
