From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga (1983)

“Special effects are just a tool, a means of telling a story. People have a tendency to confuse them as an end to themselves. A Special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing. ” – George Lucas

Number of Times Seen – at least 5 times (video in the 80’s and 90’s and 3 May 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A behind the scenes view of many of the technical aspects involved in creating thus iconic trilogy.

My Take on it – As a HUGE fan of Star Wars, I actually bought this video back in the mid-80’s and watched it numerous times possibly wearing the tape quite thin by overuse.

I love just about everything about the trilogy that a film like this helped make me understand on a deeper level everything that actually went into the making of this iconic trilogy.

They give us a broad overview of many of the reason why this series has become so popular and the exclusive interviews with the cast and crew give us even more insight into the process of how this trilogy came to be.

This film is truly essential for any fan of the series who is interested in learning more about the process of making these films.

I loved how they do an excellent job comparing and contrasting many of the techniques used to make each of the films because as technology advanced, they were able to do an even better job of creating this galaxy far far away.

Not surprisingly, the need for some of the effects in these films helped advance the technology used by all film makers and it wouldn’t surprise me to know that this is perhaps one of the most influential trilogies on the advancement of special effects over the years.

Bottom Line – Amazing behind the scenes look at many of the great aspects that make this trilogy so iconic. Exclusive footage and interviews of the cast and crew make this essential for any fans of the series. Does a great job comparing and contrasting the technical changes made as technology advanced during the course of time between the films, partially dui to the effects they needed to be created. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The special includes footage of the “Han meets Jabba” scene from “Star Wars” as it was originally shot, with Declan Mulholland as Jabba the Hutt. When the scene was restored for the “Special Edition” release of the film, Mulholland had been replaced with a CGI-created Jabba. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy
