Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 May 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A self proclaimed bachelor volunteers to escort his love interests kids from Oregon to Vancouver, but things don’t go as smoothly as he hoped it would.
My Take on it – This film isn’t a film that is spectacular yet it is able to take a stereotypical genre with cookie cutter characters and keep things interesting.
This is mainly due to the slapstick elements of the film which keep things fresh and fun.
Ice Cube is an interesting choice as the lead and I truly wonder if Adam Sandler had chosen to star in this film (see Trivia below) if it would have been even more enjoyable.
Despite this, Ice Cube does a fine job playing against type here.
Even though this film follows a very stereotypical path, they are still able to elicit enough laugh along the way.
The best part of this film tho are the kids who easily steal every scene that they appear in and their antics just get funnier and funnier and don’t make things boring at all.
There are scenes in the film that make this film feel like a lesser version of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) because of the vast differences between the characters personalities.
Bottom Line – Fun film, but is mostly entertaining for the slapstick aspects instead of the storyline and characters. Ice Cube is fine in this role and does a good job playing against type here. The story and characters are very stereotypical of a film like this but it still is able to elicit enough laughs along the way. The kids steal the film tho because they are able to keep things going the whole time and their antics don’t get boring to watch.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Actor Ice Cube stated on Late Night with Conan O’Brien (1993) that this film was originally intended as an Adam Sandler vehicle. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
