Number of Times Seen – About 5 times (Cable in the 80’s and 21 May 2017)
Brief Synopsis – After accidently getting telekenisis powers, a teenager decides to use his newfound abilities to help himself and his best friend become more popular.
My Take on it – As a child of the 70’s, I grew up watching Scott Baio on Happy Days and Willie Aimes on Eight is Enough and even had the pleasuree of watching them both in the wholesone syndicated conedy of the 80’s Charles in Charge.
All of this together made me feel strange watching the two of them in a teen sex comedy which is so far removed from the wholesome characters that we am familiar with and it makes me believe that both of them are extremely miscast in this film eventhought it seems as if they both really let it all our in these roles.
The plot is quite silly yet because things are fun, it’s easy to overlook some of crazyness of the plot plus the failed jokes along the away.
I liked the poor effects used here because it shows how much technology has advanced over the three and a half decades since this came out and the truth is, the effects are mostly payoff to teens watching this film and don’t really advance the plot at all enough for it to make a difference.
Bottom Line – Fun teenage comedy that let Baio and Aames let it all out. Hard to watch them here because they would later team up as wholesome friends in the TV show Charles in Charge. Typical 80’s comedy though that goes for the laughs despite the plot being a bit silly. The effects are done extremely poorly but taking into consideration the 35 years since it was made helps us be more forgiving.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Star Scott Baio later said of this film: “Great movie. Loved it then. Love it today. I get more people asking about that movie than anything, no lie. And I had a ball making that. A cute, fun teen movie, and it made money. And it had Scatman Crothers!. He was a good guy, and supposedly he smoked pot every day. That’s what I was told, but I don’t actually know. But I got to work with Willie [Willie Aames], and it was a great experience . . . Good people. Good crew. Good director.” (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
