“I’m just going to give you a little time… to try to be reasonable. If you decide you’re not going to be reasonable, then one night when you come home, you’ll find me *inside*, waiting for you. And that will be the night you’ll wish you’d never been born. ” – Harry Reikle

Number of Times Seen – 1 (5 Jun 2017)

Brief Synopsis – After a bank teller foils a robbery, he decides to take the money himself which gets him into trouble with the robber who wants his mobey back.

My Take on it – I had never even heard of this film until recently and was very pleased with everything it has to offer us.

Elliott Gould and Christopher Plummer are both excellent as the leads and it was so refreshing to meet two very intelligent characters playing cat and mouse with each other.

You never really know what will happen as they each get deeper and deeper involved in the crime.

The plot is extremely thrilling to watch as we slowly learn more and more about who each of the characters are and what they are willing to do in order to keep the money.

This is a film that I can’t wait to see again!

Bottom Line – Such a fun thriller to watch because the characters are all quite intelligent. The cat and mouse games they play with each other are very enjoyable because you really never know what will happen as they get deeper and deeper into trouble. Gould and Plummer are both superb here. Thrilling until the very end. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – One of the first Canadian films to be developed and financed by the Canadian government’s “Capital Cost Allowance” program, controversial for being a tax shelter scheme. (From IMDB)

  2. Agree with you 100%. I saw this film when it came out. Felt privileged to have done so, because it didn’t do all that well at the box office and I spent years telling others about it and having them thank me after they saw it. It’s quite an ingenious little thriller with some terrific twists and turns as Elliot Gould seizes an opportunity and finds himself in way over his head to a cunning and vicious Christopher Plummer. Ho, ho, ho has nothing to do with it. In addition to the two of them – nice turns by Susannah York as a possible love interest for Gould and a look fast or you might miss the late great John Candy as a cuckolded bridegroom and fellow worker at the bank. I’ve seen this movie a few times, now own it on DVD, and I’m still dazzled by how good it is. Funny, tension filled, terrifying in spots. Gould is his usual low-key droll self, until he needs to step up his game against a cool murderous thief turned cold-blooded killer. Plummer – showing off the same sort of chops he’d use a bit later in Star Trek VI – is flat out terrific.
