Number of Times Seen – 1 (5 Jun 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A group of improvisational comedians trying to make their way encounter many hurdles as they continuously strive to “make it big.”
My Take on it – This is a film that I knew nothing about going in and was extremely impressed with the end result.
The concepts discussed here are superbly shown to us especially since many of the issues discussed are usually not openly seen in films.
They deal so intensely with the concepts of success and failure in life, love and careers both for ones self and for those close to them in a really realistic way that we can easily relate to everything being shown to us.
They do an amazing job developing the characters in a way that we easily can identify with each and every one of them based on their goals in life and their individual outlook on their professional career.
The cast is superbly chosen because each and every one of them make the jokes work and more importantly all feel like real people who we can relate to because of their fears and issues.
I really got the fee;ling that these characters were all struggling comedians who had to deal with the ups and downs of the business and try and make their lives work around the fact that not everyone eventually is able to become a breakout star in that kind of profession.
Cant wait to see what else writer/director Mike Birbiglia has for us in the future.. if it’s a good as this one was, sign me up!
Bottom Line – Such a great concept that discusses issues not usually shown in films. The ideas about success and failure for ones self and for others is shown in quite a realistic fashion. The characters are all developed quite well and uniquely that we get a clear idea of who each of them are and what their goals in life are. Great cast that really make the jokes work and we feel for their various predicaments. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The main cast did two weeks of improv rehearsals before performing in front of live audiences. Footage from their performances were used in the film. (From IMDB)
