Number of Times Seen – 1 (4 Jun 2017)
Brief Synopsis – Documentary about the life and career of comedian Don Rickles.
My Take on it – I have always been a fan of Don Rickles’ work and until seeing this film, I thought I knew a lot about him and his career.
This is a film that I have been trying to track down for quite some time now and after Rickles’ death two months ago at the age of 90, I intensified my search and finally found it.
This documentary tells us so much about his personal and professional life that I was astounded at how much one can learn about someone so well known.
Rickles’ career spanned so many decades that he was able to interact and work with so many generations of comedians and entertainers over the years.
This film shows us so many clips of his work and they are all hilarious to watch.
We also get interviews with many of the men and women who he worked with over the years which heklps us understand both who Rickles the comedian was and also who Rickles the family man was.
He was affectionately known as Mr. Warmth because he treated everyone the same; he was one of the best insult comics that everyone wanted to get in line to be ridiculed by.
The best part of this amazing film tho are the interview segments with Rickles himself because it really gives us even more insight into who he was as a man and as an entertainer.
I’m so glad I finally got to see this and this is now going to part of my top ten films of 2007 because it was so inspirational to watch.
Bottom Line – Hilarious film because it shows us so much about the career and life of one of the funniest comics ever. We get to see interviews with so many people who worked with him over the years and knew him so well. The clips shown of many of his career highlights are superb. The best part of this film tho are the interviews with Rickles himself who always knows how to tell it like it is. Highly Recommended!
