“Serve in Heaven or reign in Hell?” – David
Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Jul 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A transport filled with colonists on their way to a distant planet are awoken earlier than expected and come upon the wreck of the spaceship Prometheus.
My Take on it – I know that this movie has been dissected to death by so many people over the past few weeks, but since I only now got a chance to see it, I guess you’ll have to endure some more dissection from me too.
I really enjoyed Prometheus (2012) and had high expectations for this film due to that and was quite disappointed with the end result.
They do a real lousy job developing the characters and even though I watched the deleted scene – The last Supper on YouTube beforehand, it didn’t help me to really care much about the characters.
The premise seems to be a good one and then for some reason, they chose to turn this into a typical teen horror flick where just about every dies [spoiler :)], the only question that remains is in what horrific and ingenious way.
They had the perfect opportunity to make this film have a more substantial and meaningful point, yet wasted that chance.
The special effects and the creature design is very cool to look at and there is no question that this looks superior to all of the previous movies from that perspective.
Unfortunately tho, look and feel are too different things and this film is truly a wasted opportunity to raise the bar on the presentation of the whole series.
Bottom Line – Not as entertaining as I had hoped. The characters aren’t developed well enough for us to care about any of them. The overall story is interesting but gets too sidetracked with wanting to feel like a teenage horror movie than really giving us something more substantial. The effects and design are all done really well yet the real story doesn’t get the attention it deserves which is quite a shame.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Each “Alien” film features a different type of group interacting with the Xenomorphs, which were miners in Alien (1979), the military in Aliens (1986), prisoners in Alien 3 (1992), smugglers in Alien: Ressurection (1997), archaeologists in Alien vs. Predator (2004), a combination of normal suburban humans, police force, and military in Aliens vs Predator: Requiem (2007), and research scientists in Prometheus (2012). While the main characters in this film are scientists, they are also colonists. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy

Agreed..”Like a teenage horror movie.” Kind of reminded me of Friday the 13th but with a lot of scientific mumbo jumbo to make it seem important. I don’t need to know why “the alien” is doing what it’s doing. IT’s an alien. Just avoid it!
This was a big disappointment. Here’s my take: https://fastfilmreviews.com/2017/05/19/alien-covenant/

I’m right there with you. I was really let down by the ending, even though I enjoyed the action scenes, and it was a poor continuation of Prometheus.

This is clearly the worst in the alien franchise, it is only made worse by the fact ‘Life’ used intelligent astronauts and this used seemingly the most unprofessional untrained stupid characters in the history of space movies, who follow zero protocol for safety on a mission of this importance
