“These banks practically destroyed this country. They crushed a lot of people’s dreams, and nothing ever happened to them. We three old guys, we hit a bank. We get away with it, we retire in dignity. Worst comes to the worst, we get caught, we get a bed, three meals a day, and better health care than we got now. ” – Joe

Brief Synopsis – Three retirees decide to rob a bank in order to get back their pensions when their former company stops paying them.
My Take on it – As many of yoiu know, I am not a fan of remakes at all and therefore was a bit cautious when I heard that this was being made.
What sold me on the idea of watching it was basically its all star cast.
I went into this with no expectation what so ever and was extremely surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Alan Arkin are all hilarious in this film and each has a very distinct yet developed personality which helps them all work off one another.
It’s extremely easy to believe based on their chemistry together that they have been friends for decades.
This film keeps the balance perfect between comedy and drama which helps keep things entertaining throughout.
They filled this film with lots of great cameos but the best is clearly by Christopher Lloyd as a mutual friend of the trio.
They keep things fun throughout and gives us exactly what we want; an entertaining yet fun film that keeps things light enough to enjoy.
Bottom Line – One of the few remakes that works better than the original. They have a great balance between the comedy and dramatic aspects of the story. Caine, Freeman and Arkin work quite well together and it’s believable that they have been friends for decades. Great to see cameos galore here but Lloyd stands out as the best. Extremely fun movie that gives us exactly what we want from it. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When the bank robbery takes place, the masks Michael Caine, Alan Arkin and Morgan Freeman wear are, respectively, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. masks. Known collectively as the Rat Pack and stars of the 1960 heist movie, Ocean’s 11. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
