“This guy smells too good. He’s the kind of guy who needs an Alamo to defend. He’s perfect! ” – Michael
Number of Times Seen – at least 5 times (cable in the 80’s and 90’s, 28 Jan 2002 and 21 Jul 2017)
Brief Synopsis – An FBI agent is sent undercover in middle America to try and find a group of White Supremacists.
My Take on it – This is a film that I really enjoyed when I originally saw it nearly 30 years ago and have always had fun watching ever since.
Debra Winger and Tom Berenger are both great here because they both keep so much secret from us that we only slowly begin to understand who they really are.
The two of them have nice chemistry together and both characters seem extremely believable in everything that they do.
The story keeps us hooked from the opening scene and I loved the way that they keep us guessing the whole time as to what is truth and what is lies.
The structure of the film purposely keeps us in the dark and we never know what to believe or not as things constantly change.
The storyline stays interesting the whole time and they do a wonderful job keeping us guessing and figuring out what is really going on all on our own.
Bottom Line – Great thriller that keeps you hooked right from the start since you never really know what to believe or not. The chemistry between Winger and Berenger is quite good here and they do a wonderful job keeping us guessing the whole time as to what the truth is. The story is structured really well and stays enjoyable the entire time because they purposely leave so much for us to try and guess or figure out on our own. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to Joe Eszterhas’ book “Hollywood Animal”, everybody on set was afraid of Debra Winger as she was known for having a difficult temper, but Winger proved the rumors to be wrong. Tom Berenger was so intimidated by her that Winger had to make coffee for him and kid with him the entire time to put him on ease. Winger also spent one entire night playing poker with the crew to ease them. By the end of the shoot everybody was in love with her. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
