Heroes Don’t Come Home (2016)

“You never let me apologize, I’ve always been sorry.” – Ben

Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Jul 2017)

Brief Synopsis – Two best friends who’s lives are changed on 9/11 try to deal with how those events affect both of their lives.

My Take on it – This is a film that I actually came across by accident, and since the premise seemed so interesting, I was looking forward to seeing what they had in store for us.

They do a great job here taking a complex situation and expanding on it in ways that we wouldn’t really expect.

We get quite a unique view on the effect of war on two friends that both start off at the same point but who’s lives take them on very divergent paths.

The choice of unknown actors here was a necessity and helps us believe the story even more.

The filmmakers made an interesting choice to show us the passage of time via small snippets of the characters lives as they move in their diverse directions.

Some of the characters shown pop up out of nowhere without any real introduction but the film maker knows that we are all smart enough to quickly figure out their relevance which helps with the underlying story of how the paths of these two men move in different directions during the years portrayed here.

Bottom Line – Very good indie film that takes a complex situation and does a great job expanding on it. It gives us a unique view of how war can affect two people who start off at the same point but eventually take different routes in life. The unknown actors help make the story feel more believable.  Loved the way that they chose to show the passage of time through important snippets in the character’s lives even though they constantly introduce unknown characters along the way.  Thankfully, they expect the viewer to easily figure out who the characters are which helps build the underlying story of the paths that the two main character’s lives take. Recommended!
