The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

“You know as well as I do decisions made in real time are never perfect. Don’t second guess an operation from an armchair. ” – Noah

Number of Times Seen – 3 (25 Aug 2007, Feb 2010 and 26 Jul 2017)

Brief Synopsis – Jason Bourne continues to try and find out about his past after a news reporter begins digging in to the history of the CIA program.

My Take on it – This is clearly my favorite of all of the films in this series.

They do a great job of bringing closure for the story arc of Jason Bourne and end the trilogy in a great way.

It’s a really thrilling storyline that they are able to present to us here and they definitely got the tone right for it all.

The pacing ios perfectly implemented and there is a reason that this film was able to win 3 Oscars in technical categories; Film Editing, Sound editing and sound mixing.

The Train station scene is amazingly shot and they are able to give us the feeling that we are right there with the characters in the thick of it all.

Matt Damon once again proves that he was the right choice to play (the young) Jason Bourne.

The story is perfectly written and they were able to easily make up for the slight dip in the flow of things from the previous installment.

Another great spy film that does a great job of showing us such a thrilling story.

Bottom Line – The most thrilling of the 5 films in the series. It really was done right because they are able to keep things thrilling the whole time. The scenes in the train station are amazingly choreographed and written and we really feel as if we are right there with the characters.  There’s a reason that this film won 3 Oscars in technical categories. Damon is great here once again and the story clearly makes up with the slight dip from the previous chapter. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This is the only Bourne film to win an Academy Award. It won 3, all the categories it was nominated for, while the previous two films weren’t even nominated. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. For me they kept getting better and better. I liked the interim film where Jeremy Renner stepped in for Damon – but it’s outclassed by the previous 3. And glad to see Damon and Greengrass back on board for the recent JASON BOURNE. Probably places a close 4th in the Bourne universe for me – but some exceptional stuff again – the chase through the streets at night, the crazed car chase through Vegas, etc. I’ve seen every film (other than 4) multiple times – probably more than Rob – and own all 5 on DVD. Hoping for a 6th.

  2. I’m not that big a fan of the Bourne movies, but they’re solid spy thrillers with some great action. Ultimatum is definitely my favorite as well, from the train station phone call right down to the final scene.
