The Story of 90 Coins (2015)

“The 10th day, Today is May 20th, Do you know how much I want to tell you I love you but I’m afraid you will find it nauseating.” – Wang

Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Aug 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A short film about a promise between two friends that they will date for 90 days to decide whether they are meant for one another.

My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and decided that its premise was definitely worth checking out.

They do a great job of creating a moving and realistic love story despite the less than ten minute run time.

We easily feel for the characters and want to find out what will happen to them by the end.

The storytelling method used is a great one and the use of flashbacks helps us learn so much more about everything that has happened between them allowing us to care even more about their future fates.

The one thing that slightly bothered me was the fact that the film was too short and had they been able to expand this story to a full length feature, we would be able to learn so much more about the character’s lives beforehand which would give us an even more emotional connection to everything that happens here.

Despite that fact, I’m really glad that I got to see this and with the ability to make a film like this, I’m quite curious as to what other great ideas the writer and director of this film have in store for us in the future.

Check this out on vimeo:

Bottom Line – Nice short film that easily makes us understand and feel for the love story depicted.  The story seems quite realistic and the method of telling this story helps get the emotional points across extremely well. My one complaint is that I would have preferred it to be a longer movie so we could get to know the characters much better. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Filming was carried out during winter with temperatures frequently dipping below 10 degrees Celsius. Except for the actors and actresses, the rest of the crew were in heavy winter clothing. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. The cast was very good and Wong has very strong visuals and a good story. I just think the boyfriend could have tried harder in the third act. His girl had the opportunity to go to Paris to study what she loves and he had to be all jealous because another guy had the hots for her
