Number of Times Seen – 1 (16 Aug 2017)
Brief Synopsis – The head lifeguard at a beach in Emerald City works together with his fellow lifeguards to stop criminal activity on their watch.
My Take on it – I must preface this review by stating that I do not EVER recall seeing a full episode of the TV show, so I can only talk about my perceived merits (or lack thereof) of it.
The idea that they would be able to make 242 unique episodes about lifeguards just baffles me.
This film tries to take the (silly) premise of the show and make it an even sillier movie because like CHIPs (2017) before it, they decided to make it a complete comedy instead of a drama which miiiight (I said might) have worked on some level.
It seems to me that this film (and the TV show) are solely meant as eye candy because the plot is almost non-existent and silly.
I’m not the biggest fan of the Rock but his character’s attitude was way over the top trying to be a boy scout.
His conflicts with Zack Efron were silly and childish and even bordered on being completely ridiculous.
Some of the jokes were funny, but overall, they just tried too hard to make this film something more than it really deserves to be and failed miserably.
Bottom Line – Terrible film based on a terrible show. Both are only meant to be watched for the eye candy and not for the plot. Hated The Rock in this film because he tries too hard to be a boy scout and his conflicts with Efron bordered on being totally ridiculous. They had some funny jokes here, but overall, this film was a real waste of time.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After scathing reviews poured in from critics and fans alike, Dwayne Johnson tweeted that the film wasn’t made for critics. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy
