Running Scared (2006)

“And you know I will, because I got the toughest mob in the world. I’m the law. ” – Detective Rydell

Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Aug 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A mobster gets into trouble when a gun he was entrusted with that killed corrupt cops goes missing and he must race against time to find it before anyone else does.

My Take on it – This is a film that I avoided for years because it just didn’t seem to be something I would have normally enjoyed.

Thankfully, I decided to take a shot at it because I really liked the way this one was done.

Paul Walker proves here how he can be a real leading man and can carry a film all on his own.

Vera Farmiga as his wife also does a great job.

Together, they are a couple who shows us that they are willing to do so much to keep their family safe.

This is a great example of a film where most (if not all) of the characters are corrupt and evil without morals, yet Walker and Farmiga’s characters do all they can to try and rise above it when when the safety of the family is involved.

They do a great job portraying the action and violence of this kind of underworld element and I loved the twists and turns along the way that you never expect to pop up.

These surprises help make this such an entertaining and engaging thriller.

Bottom Line – Great starring vehicle for Walker who shows that he can carry a film as the lead. Farmiga is great as his wife and together they show what a couple can do to keep their family safe.  Loved the way that this film is filled with corrupt and evil characters without anyone supposedly with morals yet the main character does his best to be the best father and husband as he can despite what he has been involved with his whole life. The action and violence seems quite realistic and the twists and turns along the way really help make this such n enetertaining crime film. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Most of the bloody gunshot wounds were done with squibs, with a handful of CGI one also added. In the commentary, Wayne Kramer mentions that Bruce Altman was terrified of the squibs because he’s never been strapped to them before. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
