Unlocked (2017)

“We’ve been compromised ” – Alice

Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Aug 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A CIA agent stationed in London comes across a conspiracy and must try and stay alive long enough to uncover the truth.

My Take on it – I didn’t expect much from this film and that is somewhat of a relief since it’s a pretty average spy film.

There are numerous plot twists and turns that work but can be seen a mile ahead of time and you know what will happen.

Noomi Rapace is a good action hero yet she feels like she is in too much over her head too often in this role.

They try to make a female version of a Jason Bourne film and they just can’t compare since this doesn’t reach the level it needs to get to in order to make a serious comparison.

The story itself could be much tighter and that might have been able to help this be so much better but unfortunately it is only able to give us what is expected… a pretty average spy thriller that doesn’t live up to the way a film in this genre today should.

Bottom Line – Pretty average spy film that is quite predictable in many of the plot twists. Rapace is quite good in the lead but too much of the plot seems to be a bit above her level.  This film seems to try too hard to be a carbon copy of something in the realm of Jason Bourne and just doesn’t match up to what they did there.  The story could have been a bit tighter but it actually delivers what can be expected from an average spy film.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Noomi Rapace fractured her nose during filming when an elbow accidentally hit her face. She, however, didn’t realize the extent of the injury until much later so, after a brief black out, she just got up and insisted on carrying on with the scene. As of April 2015, the fracture had yet to be mended and had healed up in a broken state (meaning it needs to be re-broken up again in order to fix). (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
