Noel (2004)

“I don’t wanna be alone when I die.” – Charlie

Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Sep 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A look at the lives of 5 different people during the Holiday season and how unexpected encounters could change their lives forever.

My Take on it – This is a film that I had never heard of beforehand, but since I decided to watch more films of Paul Walker, I came across this little gem directed by Chazz Palminteri.

I didn’t have much expectations going in, but I have always enjoyed films that take multiple character arc and find ways to connect them.

This storyline revolves around a few lonely people during the Holiday season where each of the wants to try and find a way out of their lonely feelings.

The cast is superb with Susan Sarandon, Penelope Cruz, Robin Williams and Alan Arkin joining Walker.

Each of their arcs work really well and when they somehow meet up it doesn’t seem random at all but rather natural during the normal course of life making it all flow so naturally.

This is Palminteri’s sole credit as a theatrical director and he does a great job putting it all together.

This isn’t a film that went on to win any awards, but it’s a heartwarming tale of how normal people can act and think during the times of the year when they seek more comfort from others yet they are in some way all alone.

Bottom Line – So much better than I expected since the storylines are more inspirational than expected. The cast is superb and you can easily feel the despair and loneliness of the characters as they seek some form of miracle to ease those feelings when they least expect it. The intermingling of the stories works really well and they don’t feel random at all because they flow so well.  Palminteri does a wonderful job in his sole theatrical credit as Director.  Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Throughout shooting the film on location in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Susan Sarandon would catch a 45-minute flight from New York City (where she lives) to Montreal. One return flight from Montreal turned into a reported 14+ hour ordeal due to a blizzard that shutdown most of the East Coast.  (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
