The Death and Life of Bobby Z (2007)

“I’ve got everything I want. ” – Tim

Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Sep 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A convicted felon is given a deal by the CIA to pose as a deceased drug dealer in order to help in the release of a kidnapped agent.

My Take on it – This is a film that seemed silly from the get go and isn’t able to change that impression no matter how hard they try.

The premise itself is recycled from so many other ideas used in the past and doesn’t feel new and unique at all.

The fact that this film has a number of high profile actors would be another reason one would believe it would be better, but Laurence Fishbourne, Paul Walker, Olivia Wilde and Keith Caradine aren’t able to help this at all.

The story itself is done in a pretty boring way and nothing really happens that is unexpected.

The truth is, films like this which feature an identity switch usually have one major flaw and this film is no different.

It always amazes me that characters who supposedly know the “switched” character quite well and in some cases extremely intimately can’t seem to realize that this is not the person they know and instead are also fooled by this “imposter”.

This film has a gfew good points especially when dealing with familial issues, but those ideas quickly disappear and aren’t able to impact things enough to make this film worth your time to watch.

Bottom Line – Terrible film that isn’t helped at all by the talented cast. The storyline is quite boring and not much actually happens that means very much. Films dealing with identity switches always bother me on a certain level since it’s hard to always believe that people’s memories are so poor when meeting someone they know after an absence. They started going in the right direction when dealing with familial responsibilities, but it didn’t last as long as it should have.  Skip it!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Initially, the film was going to be released theatrically by Warner Bros., who have a first look deal with Millennium Films, but after the film tested poorly, WB decided to pass. Sony picked it up as a direct-to-video feature. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy
