Fast & Furious (2009)

“A real driver knows exactly what’s in his car. ” – Dom

Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 Sep 2017)

Brief Synopsis – Brian and Dom must work together for the FBI in order to bring down a heroin dealer in L.A.

My Take on it – After three films that were passable, they finally were able to start getting their stride with this film and build a team of characters who can work together so well to do what is needed.

The chemistry between Paul Walker and Vin Diesel is what truly helps make the teamwork fulfill what we want it to.

Reuniting them with Paget Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez helps make the team feel like a reunited family.

The added addition of Han and Gisele (Sung Kang and Gal Gadot)  helps expand the boundaries of the team while also giving us more characters with different specialties to help out with the ideas presented.

Once again, the driving, racing and heist scenes are choreographed so amazingly that you keep holding your breath as the action escalates and escalates minute by minute.

With this film they figured out the correct formula and I’m glad because this is just the beginning of it all.

Bottom Line – This is where the franchise starts to get it’s stride, but still has only been able to reach its minimal potential. Once again the chemistry between Diesel and Walker is what makes this worthwhile to watch.  Their screen presence together is truly what helps make this film work more often than not. The addition of Han and Gisele to the team of the duo along with Brewster and Rodriguez helps make this fun to watch. The action scenes are once again superbly choreographed to give us maximum action potential within the scope presented. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Ron Yuan suffers from vertigo. For the scene where his character David Park hanging out the window, the reactions on his face are natural. Director Justin Lin in the commentary said that he really wanted to get this scene done since they were losing the natural lighting. He jokingly threatened to hang Ron himself if he didn’t do the shot right away. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
