The Fate of the Furious (2017)

“Why do I think that you’re about to suggest something very wicked, Mr. Toretto?” – Magdalene Shaw

Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 Sep 2017)

Brief Synopsis – For reasons unknown, Dom begins working for a cyber terrorist, so the team must reform in order to stop him while also trying to figure out why he changed sides.

My Take on it – This most recent addition t this franchise is able to once again keep the bar high for this genre.

The choice of Charlize Theron as the villain might not have been the best choice since she is far from perfect in that role, but still manages to scrape by.

Loved the way that they are able to keep certain things a mystery for as long as possible because that allows those of us who are familiar with the theatrical lives of these characters to try and figure it out before the reveal itself.

This helps keep things interesting and above all extremely fun.

This is a franchise about the bonds of “family” and they do a wonderful job to once again emphasize that idea here over and over without getting too weepy about it even when doing so from various perspectives.

I really liked how this film is filled with more humor than previous installments because it helps invest us even further into the lives of these characters and their connections to one another that we have been able to watch grow over the past 7 films in this franchise.

Scott Eastwood is a fun addition to the franchise and I really hope that they plan to keep him on in some capacity for future chapters.

As always, the action scenes are great yet extremely ludicrous more often than not, but that helps keep things endearing to us.

Bottom Line – Another great installment in the franchise despite Theron being a mediocre villain. Loved the mystery around so much of what was happening which helped make this so much fun to watch. Does a wonderful job of once again emphasizing the idea of family from numerous perspectives.  This film has more humor than previous installments but that works quite well here getting us to invest more in the lives of these characters who we have gotten to know over the previous films.  Eastwood is a fun addition to the franchise and I hope he sticks around for the future chapters.  Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Mr. Nobody explains the “top 10 most wanted” list, and that Roman was number 11, he says people in the room are numbers 6, 8, 9, and 10. The missing number 7 is a tribute to Paul Walker, who died after production of movie #7. His character, Brian O’Conner is now out of the life. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. I wasn’t that big of a fan of this one, i didn’t like the directing of the action sequences and the real life beef between Rock and Diesel seems to come into the movie too and Vin feels awful throughout the film and now i want to see a Deckard Shaw and Hobbs movie more than anything else
