“Oh, it’s like you’re going to the zoo – except you’re in the cage.” – Sammie
Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Sep 2017)
Brief Synopsis – Two women on vacation decide to sight-see on the ocean where they can observe real sharks from the safety of a metal cage until something goes wrong.
My Take on it – This is a film that I heard about a few months ago from my friend Damien of Riley on Film.
I was intrigued by the premise but unfortunately the execution just isn’t done well enough.
They do a great job making the threat feel real here but then about half way through, the film just loses its footing and gets quite boring and remains quite tedious throughout the rest of the film.
They do a great job with the way they present all of the underwater filming but even that loses its impact when the actually novelty of it all starts to wear off.
I think that had they made the film much shorter it would have worked since films like this can only work if they have the ability to keep thing interesting throughout the runtime and they weren’t able to keep that going here.
Bottom Line – Interesting idea that just doesn’t work as well as one would hope. The threat feels real for the first half and then just gets too tedious as things move along. The underwater footage is done really well but loses its impact when the novelty of the story wears off.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – To replicate the organisms found underwater, finely chopped broccoli was added to the tank. Mandy Moore said it was quite unpleasant after a few weeks. She even compared it to filming inside a soup. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy

Lets not forget the horrible mistake going on through this film, the girls can hear each other underwater and their ears are not within any mask

This movie made my Worst 10 list. I thought it was an absolute crapfest from start to finish. I remember reading that the producers originally were planning to release it straight to video because they didn’t want to waste money on advertising for a feature release – changed their minds. I actually was intrigued after seeing the poster for it. Thought it might be like The Shallows (which I thought was great and head and shoulders better than this turd) so I went. Bad move on my part. But smart move by the studio because somehow (I guess relative to the cost) the movie turned out to be a “hit” and I think they’re doing a sequel. Needless to say – I won’t be going to that.
