The Toptober Tens #11 – Westerns

For this month’s next Toptober Tens, Here are my Top Ten Favorite Westerns.

  1. Another ripe category. Well done Rob. I can’t believe some of the titles that missed my cut (Red River, My Darling Clementine, Little Big Man, Cat Ballou) – so if you asked the same question a week from now – my list might change. But for now…
    2). The Ox Bow Incident
    3). HIGH NOON
4). The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
    6). The Magnificent Seven (1960)
    8). The Searchers
    10). Shane

  2. No worries. Glad to hear that your reinvigorated list had Ox Bow splashing down at #4. Well done. I’m loving your Toptober lists. It’s crazy – with some – I can get by with only 5. On others – I wish I had 15 or 20. That’s what makes it all so fascinating. Plus – there were a few “modern day” Westerns (Lonely Are The Brave, Hell or High Water) which I could’ve stretched the definition of a bit – and would’ve changed the entire complexion of my list. So like I said earlier – some of these categories are brutal.

  3. Sadly, I’ve only seen 6 of these, but I do love them all. Great job! For me, Once Upon a Time in the West would easily be at the top of the list. Others I’d consider for the top 10 include:

    Blazing Saddles
    True Grit (both versions)
    Young Guns
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
    Django Unchained
    The Outlaw Josey Wales
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (if that counts)
