This is my 3439th Review
Thanks to Jason of Jason’s Movie Blog for this recommendation.
Here are his thoughts on the film.
Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Oct 2017)
Brief Synopsis – Two trouble-making students accidentally make their mean principal believe that he is a real life superhero Based on a comic book character created by their imaginations.
My Take on it – This is an adaptation of a book series that I had never even heard of before this film came out last summer.
I guess that has something to do with the fact that the first book came out when I was 23.
We all have caused some antics and commotion for our teachers when we were kids and that idea actually resonates throughout.
The two kids have some great ideas of how to cause trouble with their teachers and principal and I found it quite fun watching it all play out.
Many of their antics are extremely entertaining to watch because many of the ideas are so simple yet ingenious.
The idea to not try and make this film live action was a great idea because they are able to show us their ideas in a more concrete fashion with animation.
Having never read any of the books, I was really unfamiliar with the characters in the story, but they do a great job developing the main characters as the story moves forward.
They do a fine job keeping us entertained the whole way through and I’m defintely curious to see where things will lead in the future.
Bottom Line – Interesting idea that works on numerous levels. The antics of this duo is quite humorous and they have so many great ideas of how to entertain themselves at the expense of their teachers. The animation helps show us so many of their ideas in a fashion that probably would have been so much more difficult had it been live action. Having never read any of the books, I wasn’t familiar with the characters, but that actually helps because I didn’t have any preconceived notions about them and could get to know them as things moved forward. Entertaining idea that makes me curious to see what they will do with it in the future. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When development for either a live-action film or TV series began when the first book came out in 1997, Dav Pilkey wanted Chris Farley to play Captain Underpants. However, Farley tragically passed away, and the project was shelved. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
