This is my 3450th Review
Thanks to Jane of 500 Days of Films for this recommendation.
Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Oct 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A young woman and her faithful dog get stuck in a small Oregon town while on their way to start a new life up North.
My Take on it – This is a film that I had never heard of before Jane brought it to my attention and I really enjoyed this short and low-key look at the small misfortunes of a woman on her way to make a better life for herself.
Michelle Williams is great in the lead and we really get to see how emotional an impact this small stop on her journey has on her.
The pacing of this film is quite slow, but that actually allows us to savor the series of events that she experiences here.
We get to slowly learn and absorb the information about her life and aspiration before being stranded in this small town USA.
The mood and feelings of the small town are a character on its own and it seems so welcoming that we eventually feel as if we also have been transported to that place right along side her.
Bottom Line – Short and interesting film about the misfortunes of a woman trying to make a better life for herself. The story moves along slowly yet still tells us so much about her life and aspirations just based on the small events that happen to her on her journey. Williams does a splendid job in the lead and is able to give us so much from this low-key performance. They get the mood and feeling of small town America so right and we feel as if we are experiencing all this right there beside her. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Director Kelly Reichardt was worried that Michelle Williams was “too pretty” to play the role. She asked Williams to go without makeup and not wash her hair for two weeks during filming. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
