Movies From the Hat VI #16 – Niall’s Pick – A Date for Mad Mary (2016)

This is my 3453rd Review

Thanks to  Niall of Raging Fluff for this recommendation.

“Sniper wouldn’t take you out.” – Nan

Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Oct 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A troubled young woman tries to find herself while seeking a date for her best friend’s wedding.

My Take on it – This is a film with a very interesting idea.

I had never even heard of this before Niall suggested that I watch it and I found most of the characters feeling real as if they are possibly based on real people.

The cast is largely compromised of unknown and non-professional actors which also helps make the characters, situations and conversations seem even more realistic.

The themes touched upon here about moving forward to try and distance yourself from your past while trying to forge a new future comes across really well here and it gives us a humorous and poignant look at these kind of situations.

The message that one can find love in the most unsuspecting places works very well.

Bottom Line – Interesting idea that is interesting but moves along too slowly at certain points while it belabors some of the ideas presented.  The cast is largely unknown in this independent film and many of them come across very realistically. It touches largely on themes of trying to put your past behind you and finding the right path for the future and this is done quite well. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Filmed in Drogheda. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
