This is my 3467th Review
Thanks to Chet of Downthehall Podcast for this recommendation.
Here are his thoughts on the film.
Number of Times Seen – 1 (23 Oct 2017)
Brief Synopsis – In a post-apocalyptic world, a young girl with a unique genetic structure may be the only hope to stop the world from being overtaken by the undead.
My Take on it – Anyone who knows my taste in movies, knows that I’m not a fan of horror films, in fact, I will go out of my way to avoid watching scary movies.
That beig said…I’m for some strange reason an avid fan of Zombie movies and TV shows.
I have been looking forward to watching this film for quite some time and the truth is, I starting watching it about two months ago and after I was about 5 minutes in, I got a tweet from Chet telling me that this was his choice for MFTH, so I turned it off and waited until it came up “in the hat” to experience another zombie film.
This film takes the zombie idea to a new level and I really enjoyed the way that they presented it.
The story is told on a really small scale yet it has global repercussions for whatever happens.
Te premise is a very unique one because it shows that they tried really hard to find a new angle on the zombie idea… and what a whopper it is…
They don’t fall into the trap of getting too scientific about how the plague began and how they can stop it and the explanations they give are simple and easily understandable for all of us non scientists.
The cast is small her but quite powerful with the young Sennia Nanua easily the standout in her own Hannibal Lecter mask.
Bottom Line – Very interesting take on the whole zombie idea. Liked the way this was done on a small scale but with global repercussions. The premise is quite unique and shows how much thought went in to trying to find a unique idea for this genre that has been used extremely often over the past few years. They do a great job explaining the science of this plague in a fashion that we can all easily understand. The cast is great, but obviously the standout is Nanua in her Hannibal Lecter mask. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Glenn Close‘s sister-in-law, Deb Close, is a massive fan of zombie films, having always wanted to be in one, and has a small role as one of the “hungries” in the scene where the group has to work their way through a crowd of them. She is the one wearing a blue knit, with green facial fungus and blood around the mouth and neck, that Glenn stares at as her character walks past. Deb flew to the UK especially for the part, and the first thing Glenn did after accepting her role was call to let Deb know she was in a zombie film. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
