Movies From the Hat VI #33 – Drew’s Pick – Your Name (2016)

This is my 3470th Review

Thanks to Drew of Drew’s Movie Reviews for this recommendation.

Here are his thoughts on the film.

“Treasure the experience. Dreams fade away after you wake up. ” – Hitoha

Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 Oct 2017)

Brief Synopsis – Two Japanese teenagers mysterious begin switching bodies and try to help one another with the difficulties of their lives.

My Take on it – This is another film that many people have tried to get to to watch over the past year but due to my dislike in general of anime, I stayed as far away as I could.

Once again that was a mistake due solely to the plot and story of this film.

The anime animation still didn’t do much for me but the way that they inter=grate the sci-fi aspect into the whole body-switching theme worked quite well.

Enjoyed the way that the characters quickly learned how to adapt to their new situations and were able to leave messages for one another in order to help them with their daily lives despite not really knowing who each other are.

As soon as they start to reveal to us what is really happening, things get even better because it becomes even more intriguing to see what will happen.

WE then begin to understand on a deeper level everything that is occurring along with the knowledge of how and why their destinies were meant to converge.

Bottom Line – Great idea that works on numerous levels. The sci-fi aspects of the plot work really well and the characters quickly learn to adapt to their newfound “powers” and finding ways to communicate with one another despite not knowing the real identity of the other. Once things start to be revealed, things get even more interesting because we get to learn so much of why this has happened to them and where their destinies are meant to converge. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This is the first anime film not made by Studio Ghibli or Hayao Miyazaki to gross ten billion Yen at the Japanese box office (about US$98 million).  (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. I had a feeling this would come up as a recommendation. 😉 I’m glad you got to see three more great anime films, and by the sound of it, at least enjoyed their unique storylines. You might be interested to know that J.J. Abrams is working on an American version of Your Name, so if they keep the same story, maybe you’ll enjoy that even more.
