Movies From the Hat VI #41 – Kieron’s Pick – Ronin (1998)

This is my 3478th Review

Thanks to  Kieron of What About the Twinkie? for this recommendation.

“Either you’re part of the problem or you’re part of the solution or you’re just part of the landscape.” – Sam

Number of Times Seen – Twice (Theater in ’98 and 2 Nov 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A former spy joins a group of merecenaries as they try to recover a mysterious suitcase.

My Take on it – This is a film that I recall seeing in the theater when it came out on 1998 and never had the opportunity to see again.

This helped since I didn’t recall much of the plot so it was as if I was watching this for the first time.

This film is such a great thriller filled with some amazing car chases in crowded French streets.

The cinematography makes you feel as if you are right in the car with them as they speed down the narrow streets.

The cast of this film is great with Robert DeNiro and Jean Reno doing great jobs as the leaders of the hired mercenaries.

The story is so enjoyable to watch because there are so many twists and turns that things constantly evolve from scene to scene.

This makes us constantly change our allegiance to characters as things move along and we never really know who to trust.

This film is a perfect popcorn film because there isn’t much to expect besides lots of thrills during the chase scenes and due to the constantly shifts in the direction of the story, the viewer stays constantly on the edge of their seat as things stay exciting.

Bottom Line – Great action thriller that has some amazing car chase scenes. The cast is great with DeNiro and Reno leading the group of mercenaries. The plot seems to be quite simple but is filled with so many twists and turns along the way that you constantly don’t know who you should be rooting for or even trust.  Excellent popcorn movie due to its action scenes and the way that the plot constantly evolves which keeps you constantly on the edge of your seat. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – More than 300 stunt drivers were employed to give the real-time chase scenes an air of metal-crunching realism. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
