Number of Times Seen – 1 (28 Nov 2017)
Brief Synopsis – After a space station created to control extreme weather starts to go haywire, an engineer must try and find a way to stop it from causing world destruction.
My Take on it – I wasn’t too interested in seeing this film until a conversation withe my friend Simon of Moustache Movie News convinced me to give this one a try.
Unfortunately, this film has a lot of potential that is wasted as things move forward.
The premise is quite clever and it definitely starts off on the right foot, but soon, it seem as if the writers lost their train of thought on how to keep things interesting and just decided to go with the typical Hollywood fail safe and change the direction of it all.
The casting of Jim Sturgess and Gerard Butler as brothers actually works better than one could hope and it’s believable that they could actually be siblings.
The unbelievable part of the connection is that it’s very difficult to swallow that these two brothers would just happen to be given such high level posts.
The story itself gets way too predictable and even before the midway point, I was able to guess correctly what would actually happen because they indeed did choose to go the typical cookie cutter route.
Some cool special effects helps this film from being a complete waste of time.
Bottom Line – Interesting premise that has the potential to be great but loses its way and chooses to go with the typical Hollywood fail safe. Sturgess and Butler are fine together as estranged brothers, but it seems all too coincidental that they would both get such high level jobs. The story gets too predictable and before the film hit it’s midpoint, I already could guess what would happen…and I was right.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Several cast and crew (even the film’s extras) noted that lead star/producer Gerard Butler kept forgetting all his lines. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
