90 Days of Oscar Nominees #3 – One Hour With You (1932)

In my attempt to have a more prolific repertoire of Oscar Nominated Films, I have taken it upon myself to watch 90 new Best Picture Nominees that I’ve never seen before between 5 Dec 2017 and The 90th Annual Oscars on 4 Mar 2018.

Here is my 3rd review of the 90 chosen Films…

“Madame! You may think I’m a coward. I am! ” – Andre

Number of Times Seen – 1 (4 Dec 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A married couple try to decide what to do when they both fall for other people.

My Take on it – I knew taking on this challenge that I would eventually come across some films that would baffle me as to how they managed to get a Best Picture nomination and this film definitely fits into that category.

Part of this film actually reminded me of Gigi (1958) (which I also wasn’t very fond of) but that may have a lot to do with the fact that Maurice Chevalier was in both of them.

The story itself played out in a very silly way and wasn’t interesting at all to me.

I didn’t care for any of the characters and pretty much wanted this to end quite quickly since it didn’t really succeed as being seen as a great screwball comedy of the 1930’s.

The one good thing about this film was that witty dialogue that every so often had some great lines delivered by the characters.

The intonation of that dialogue though felt too much like a Dr. Seuss book since it was all done in rhyming form.

Bottom Line – A bit shocked that this film was able to get a nomination for Best Picture. I found the way it played out to be quite silly and didn’t care about any of the characters at all. The dialogue is fun to listen to since so much of it is word play, but overall this just didn’t work as a screwball comedy in my eyes.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Even though it was the pre-Hays Code era, it was one of the few films of that time to show a married couple in the same bed together. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy
