90 Days of Oscar Nominees #10 – Alibi (1929)

In my attempt to have a more prolific repertoire of Oscar Nominated Films, I have taken it upon myself to watch 90 new Best Picture Nominees that I’ve never seen before between 5 Dec 2017 and The 90th Annual Oscars on 4 Mar 2018.

Here is my 10th review of the 90 chosen Films…

“Of course you don’t understand. You’re a policeman. And you’ll never understand! ” – Joan

Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 Dec 2017)

Brief Synopsis – A policeman’s daughter secretly married a former convict who claims to have becomes honest and unwittingly becomes his alibi when he is suspected of committing a crime.

My Take on it – This is a simple film with a very simple plot that somehow managed to be included as a Best Picture nominee that year.

The story isn’t really anything special and doesn’t offer us very much.

The characters aren’t developed very well either and I didn’t care much about what would happen to any of them.

This really surprised me that this kind of film was able to be included in the list of the films that have ever been considered the best of the year by members of the Academy.

The dialogue is ok but also doesn’t offer much.

Bottom Line – Pretty average film that doesn’t really offer very much.  Quite surprised that this is part of the echelon of films that are included in the list of Best Picture nominees.  The plot is quite simple and the dialogue is ok.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Alternative scenes were shot for a silent version of the film which was released simultaneously. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
