The Mountain Between Us (2017)

Brief Synopsis – After a plane crash, two strangers must learn to trust each other in order to survive in the deserted mountain area while both hoping for rescue and choosing their own fate.

My Take on it – I am a fan of survival films like Cast Away (2000) which show a character in an extreme survival situation needing to find a way to make it back safely.

The twist in this film is the fact that we are given two complete strangers who first must try and learn to trust one another before they can do anything about surviving this ordeal because they must rely only on one another to do so.

The fact that we are given two completely different characters really helps because their skills, thoughts and abilities are complementary which helps keep a balance between them.

Idris Elba and Kate Winslet have great chemistry together and they are able to slowly raise that level of bonding as the film moves along.

This film has minimal characters due to its circumstances and due to the great screen presence of the two leads here, we never get bored of watching them most of the time since we feel invested in their stories.

Bottom Line – Really good story of survival while trapped under the oppression of the dangers of a natural wilderness. Elba and Winslet have great chemistry together and their bond gets stronger as the film moves along.  Both of them have great screen presence so it never gets boring watching a film with minimal characters besides the two since we feel invested quite heavily in their stories.  The differences in personalities of the characters works really well as they constantly are forced to work together in order to try and survive their ordeal. Recommended!
