Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 Dec 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A detective on leave is drawn into a mysterious case where a women disappears and all that remains of her is her scarf on a snowman.
My Take on it – This is a film that intrigued me when I heard of it a few months back.
Unfortunately, it’s a really boring procedural that makes little to no sense the whole way through.
The characters aren’t developed well enough and they all feel very one dimensional which takes so much away from the interesting potential that they could have given us.
The storyline is filled will lots of plot holes, extreme predicatbility and plot choices that are solely there to try and wrap things up even though the odds of them truly occuring are next to nil.
The choice to present this story in a non-linear fashion hurts the storytelling because it all seems so random when it jumps around and just makes things more confusing rather than making this more intriguing.
This film is loaded with a very talented cast who are all wasted here because they all seem to just be going through the motions.
I’ve never read the book, but I really hope that it was so much better than this adaptation.
Bottom Line – Really boring procedural that makes little sense along the way. The characters feel too two-dimensional and none of them are as interesting as they could be. Too much of the storyline is predictable and the parts that can never be guess are the ones which are so unlikely to happen that when they occur, you know it was just a silly addition to the plot to try and wrap things up. The non-linear storytelling gets way too confusing because it all happens so randomly. The very talented cast is extremely wasted. I wonder if the book is any better; I hope so….
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Apparently, Fassbender bought drinks for the whole crew after a long day of shooting. The next day, rigging electrician Karl Andre Bru walked up to the famous actor and said jokingly: “thanks for the hangover, man!”. Rumor has it Fassbender cracked up and was unable to keep a straight face for the rest of the day. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy
