Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Dec 2017)
Brief Synopsis – A year in the life of a high school senior living like most teenagers in a place where they believe they are missing out on the real world.
My Take on it – When I saw the synopsis of this film, I was a bit concerned as to whether I would find a film about a year in the life of a high school girl relatable to me.
Bo was I wring, this film is created so well because it takes a ‘simple’ story of a teenager and keeps it familiar to just about anyone watching.
Saoirse Ronan does a spectacular job in the lead role and there is no doubt in my mind that she will reap a few accolades in the upcoming awards season with this fantastic portrayal.
The story is presented really well and most of the events shown have a strong significance to how her life is constantly changing as she herself seeks to break free from her feelings that she is missing out on the best parts of life.
Besides Ronan, the supporting cast is superb and each of them have a strong influence on the direction of her life no matter how small and insignificant their roles may seem.
This is a film that is so rich with information that it definitely will need numerous viewing in order to get even close to catching them all.
I can’t wait…..
Bottom Line – Great “simple” story that is so relatable to just about anyone watching it. The lead character played by Saoirse Ronan speaks in a voice very familiar to most people which keeps things feeling very realistic and there is no doubt in my mind as to whether she will get some recognition for that role during the upcoming awards season. The events of her life during that year all have significant effects on her as she tries to transform herself. The supporting cast all help her along even if some of them only have small parts, but we can still feel their influence on everything she does. Definitely worth seeing numerous times because it has so much to offer. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The lead character is named Christine after Greta Gerwig’s mother, Christine Gerwig. In addition, the mother in the film, Marion (played by Laurie Metcalf), is a nurse, just as Christine is in real life. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)
