Breathe (2017)

“I want Jonathan to know you, there must be something I can do.” – Diana

Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Dec 2017)

Brief Synopsis – Based on the true story of a man who gets a debilitating disease and the fight he and his wife wage in order for him to try and live a more meaningful life.

My Take on it – This is a film that my wife was very interesting in seeing ever since we first heard about it.

Thankfully, we finally found time to see it together and we both were really moved by this inspirational tale.

The way that the story is presented is great because we get to see how two people faced with such a seemingly impossible situation try to make the best of it and in turn change the way of life for thousands if not tens of thousands ever since.

They also changed the way that most people in the world view people with disabilities.

Andrew Garfield is a great actor and does a fine job here, but this film belong solely to Claire Foy who gives such a powerful performance as a woman who does so much for the love of her husband.

This film is Andy Serkis’ directorial debut and he does a great job keeping the story flowing the whole way through.

Since this film takes place over the period of a bit more than two decades, he is able to focus on the important events along the way without giving us the feeling that it lingers too long on any event or contrastly speeding through any event.

Bottom Line – Definitely an inspiring true story about two people who changed the way that the world looks upon disabled people. Garfield is quite good here, but Foy steak the show by giving us such a powerful performance.  The direction by Serkis is quite good and the story flows really well over the 20+ years of the story without lingering too long or staying too short at all the stops along the way. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Andrew Garfield stayed in character in between takes. Claire Foy would even scratch his itches. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
