The Happy New Year Blogathon – End of Days (1999)

This is my 2nd of 2 entries in the The Happy New Year Blogathon being hosted by Movie Movie Blog Blog.

Tnx for letting me take part!

“Something good happens, “It’s His will.” Something bad happens, “He moves in mysterious ways.” ” – The Man

Number of Times Seen – Twice (5 Nov 1999 and 28 Dec 2017)

Brief Synopsis – An ex-cop who runs a security firm must try and stop Satan from fathering a child on the last day of the Millennia.

My Take on it – I’m always curious how a film like this actually gets green-lighted.

The premise itself is really silly and nothing makes much sense as things move along.

This is probably one of Arnie’s worst films and he doesn’t even get to say any lines that people will remember forever (I’ll be back, Hasta LaVista Baby, etc).

I’m also not sure how Gabriel Byrne was chosen for the role of the villain here because he is really atrocious in that part.

Normally, one would assume that Satan would seem menacing and scary, but here he is completely laughable.

This film has a few action sequences that are fun to watch but in the end, this film has so little to offer anyone even if you just want to veg out and watch a no brainer.

Bottom Line – Terrible premise for a film and this is perhaps one of Arnie’s worst films. Byrne is an atrocious villain and doesn’t give off the fear that such a character should be. There are a few fun action sequences but all in all, this film has very little to offer for anyone with a brain.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first film since Batman & Robin (1997). The reason for the gap was because of his heart surgery after playing Mr Freeze; the studios were anxious about whether or not they could insure him, and despite attempts to convince them he was in perfect health, he couldn’t get any work until End of Days (1999). Even then, he was amazed when insurance people and executives from Universal came to the set just to watch him, to see if he was still up to the action scenes. They asked Schwarzenegger if he enjoyed this kind of punishment, but he said he was used to it. After the first week of shooting, the insurance guys backed off and not long after, the film offers started rolling in again. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy
